What is Spravato® (esketamine)?
Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression. For this condition, it can be used with or without an oral antidepressant.
You use the nasal spray yourself under a healthcare provider’s supervision at the practice. Your care team monitors you for at least two hours after each treatment and determines when you are ready to leave. Spravato is not a take-home medication.
Your provider will review your health history, current medications, and the potential benefits and risks before recommending treatment. Individual results vary.
Who qualifies
Is Spravato right for you?
Spravato may be an option when depression hasn’t improved enough with antidepressants. A conversation with our team is a starting point if:
- You are 18 or older
- You have a diagnosis of major depressive disorder
- You have tried at least two antidepressants without adequate improvement

You self-administer the nasal spray in a private suite, then rest under monitoring for at least two hours.

A full course of care
For treatment-resistant depression: twice weekly in weeks 1–4, weekly in weeks 5–8, then weekly or every other week based on your provider’s assessment.
A calm setting, with monitoring and support throughout your visit.

Know what to expect when you arrive
A private suite
Settle into a reclining chair in a room of your own, with soft light and views of the marina.
Medical supervision
Your care team monitors you after each dose and checks that you are ready to leave.
At least two hours
Allow time for monitoring after your dose, plus check-in. Arrange a ride home; do not drive until the next day after a restful sleep.
Physician-led practice
Care led by Dr. Geoffery O’Neill
Dr. O’Neill is a board-certified anesthesiologist who earned his medical degree and completed his anesthesiology residency at UCLA. His approach combines careful medication management, close monitoring, and attention to your individual needs.
